This is where you discover how the chi is flowing through your home.

1. Create and work with floor plans. Construct a basic map of your home so that you can examine the feng shui of the space.

2. Find the centre of your floor plan. This enables you to accurately align the eight directions over your plan.

3. Take a compass reading and use this to place the eight directions in their correct orientation over your floor plan.

4. Interpret the relationship between the eight directions and your home. This is where you find out which parts of your home could be most useful to you.

5. Look at the shape of your floor plan and use this to see which types of chi are deficient.

6. Discover what kind of chi flows in through the front of your home and the atmosphere this brings with it.

7. Observe the position of the doors and windows of your house or apartment and determine which kind of chi they encourage.

Good Feng Shui Practice:

There are some actions that constitute general good practice in feng shui. You should implement these, regardless of the situation.

- Place a small bowl of sea salt in the north-east and south-west parts of your home, to add greater stability to the flow of chi along this axis.

- Fill your home with plenty of plants, to bring in more living chi.

- Use natural materials, such as wood, earthenware or cotton, wherever possible so that the chi can flow freely.

- Keep your home clean and tidy, and create the space in which chi can move. Too much clutter risks causing stagnation.

- Let in fresh air daily to refresh the chi. This keeps a stronger connection with nature, which is all around you.
